I'm a huge Gradius fan. It all started with the sister title Life Force on my NES. Since then, I have been a SHMUP fan my whole life.
When they released this Gradius Sky Girls 1/60 Scale Vic Viper kit last year, I just had to pick it up. I am pleased with the results of my work. It looks pretty good, but I'll be honest, it isn't one of my best works.
Despite what I've read from model review places online, this kit, for whatever reason, was an absolute pain for me to put together. This kit is supposed to be snap-together (similar to all those fun-to-build Gundam models), but it certainly didn't work that way for me. Often I had to remove tabs, fill gaps, and do so many other modifications that I felt like I was assembling a poorly casted resin kit rather than an injection molded Japanese model. Maybe I got a bad shipment or something, because no one else seems to have any complaints regarding this issue in the slightest.
Anyways, enough of my complaining. I'm hoping that if anyone else decides to build this kit that they have a much easier time than I did.
I love Gradius and the Vic Viper, but much like the game, this kit was difficult to get through, and required a lot of skill and patience. However, in the end, that made the reward all the more sweet.
From what I know, there was an episode in the anime 'Sky Girls' which had the Vic Viper in it. This model was marketed under the title of that anime. Possibly for marketing reasons, but I'm not sure.
oh they should have just marketed it under gradius cuz the way they said that made me think it was a girls type model. if its gradius just call it gradius it doesn't need another market title to sound cooler it already is awesome.
Could you please give me more info about the model? Where you bought it. Where i can find it. Why it looks so much better than the pictures I google >_<
I don't remember where I got it from originally (play-asia.com perhaps?), but I believe it's now OOP (Out of Print). So your best bet would be eBay or another auction site.
Here's a link to eBay, which has a lot of kits available. They get a bit pricey, but that's what happens when something is discontinued. [link]
Oh, and as for why it looks better than the pics you Googled...I have no idea. As I said in my original narrative, this model was actually a pain in the butt to build. The parts didn't fit together well and it took a lot of modeling work to get it to look decent. I appreciate it that you think mine looks great, but it did take a lot of work.
